How To Create Your Dream Home

We recommend a quarterly plan. Most of us have ambitious plans to upgrade our living areas, but we get sidetracked along the way, years slip by, and we make little progress.

A lot has to do with our busy lives. We no longer have time to focus on any one project for too long because we have other pressing matters that demand our attention.

Some of the most beautiful interiors we've created have been done on the "quarterly plan," that is, SOMETHING is scheduled and accomplished with each season of the year. It might be window treatments for the upstairs bedrooms in the fall, new carpeting for the lower level in the winter, adding a great room in the summer, etc. The point is to consistently move forward.

After three or four years, the changes are remarkable. An extra benefit or two come from this approach. First, there is always a new, exciting project in some stage of development. Secondly, by not doing all at once, you have a chance to "live with" the most recent change, and this gives time to reflect upon how the next project should look.

This is not to say that those who prefer to give their home a complete makeover in one fell swoop are wrong. The quarterly plan is just an alternative that we've noticed is being used by more and more of our friends and clients.
