Eclectic Design: Easier Said Than Done!
Sometimes you need a fresh mix in your decor. A marriage with two distinctly different styles of furniture being combined may be the catalyst. Or, maybe you're just tired of everything in your home being one style.
Perhaps you become consumed by a new passion or hobby that has changed the way you want to live. Maybe you want to be a little bolder, or maybe more sedate. For these and an infinite number of other reasons, you want to change your surroundings to reflect your new outlook.
But wait...you don't want to totally throw away the past. You can go for an eclectic look, right? Just bring a few new elements into your decor that are another style. Nothing to it, right?
Wrong! Sometimes the results of a do-it-yourself project can look exactly like that.
We wish we could give you the answers here. The fact is that it's very different to explain just what will and won't work together. Much has to do with the relationship between space, scale and color. It's a matter of training, and also of eye. We like to say that if a client wants it, we can make red and green go together without it looking like Christmas.
Too often we've seen people try to mix styles and it didn't come close to working. Today's more intense, saturated palette can make mistakes even more glaring. So the advice here is to proceed with caution.
